Originally from Johannesburg, Lyn Northam is a Cape Town based artist and art teacher. She is a big believer in what she refers to as the “Second season of life”. It is full of the joy of family, painting and teaching. Lyn has taught oil painting to beginner adults for the last 11 years and has 20 years of teaching experience before that.
In 2007 she became a Fellow of South African Society of Artists (SASA). She has been the recipient of many prestigious awards achieved over last few years including SASA Best Watercolour, SASA Best Pastel, SASA Best Oil, many highly commendeds, as well as various other awards.
Lyn’s artistic concerns lie with the challenge of capturing shifting light and seeing colour in shadows. She is inspired to create by the beauty in nature and the world around her – a passion which she hopes will encourage her viewers to appreciate the world around them as well. Example of this can be found in her impressionistic seagulls which are portrayed on the wings of thermals, stealing chips and capturing sincere little moments of humour and ordinary days which encapsulate Summer, the beach and the freedom and care free outlook which she aims to evoke through her work.
Lyn encourages people to take delight in their experiences seeing life as a journey filled with adventure. She believes in a mindset of freedom, one that says “Pick more daisies, eat more ice creams, have more fun!
